I was very excited after our meeting and my thoughts have been running in all sorts of directions the last 24 hours. I hope we can use the blog to organize our threads a little bit as we sort through our thoughts.
I was definitely thinking we should have a “gadget” page that we can post all sorts of new ideas, links, and gadgets on, as part of the blog.
I already made a book recommendation page where we can put books we want to share with each other.
One thing I was really thinking about last night is the idea of adaptability and flexibility. That is really difficult for schools sometimes. They always say the businesses that survive are those that can change creatively and adapt quickly to changes in their market. I’d like to spend some time on our committee really thinking about that in regards to school and technology.
Another idea I am excited about are the site visits.
We also had some threads about teacher proficiency and also support for all of us as we try to keep up with all these changes. I think that is really important, too.
I really loved Dale’s question–(I wish I could rephrase it better), about how can technology help us? Sometimes we get stuck on the obvious ways, and your question really got me thinking.
If you haven’t read Weblogged or Alan November’s site, I put links to their webblogs on the sidebar. They ask good questions.

By the way, my name isn’t vision
I just wanted the blog to appear under that web address. (This is Carolyn!)

I was so excited after the meeting. Lots of stuff going thru my head.
I like the idea of the gadgets page.
I think we should encourage the other committees to use a blog as well. We could all link to each other and see the other committees are doing as well. Maybe we need to set that up for them so they can see it in action. Experience is the best teacher.
I thought Dale’s statement was right on target for our subcommittee, committee as well our district.
I setup my personsal blog today so that I can see how it works and try to find ways to use it.
Something we need to consider is Web2.0. I do not know much about that but have been finding it in articles and referenced.

I read something that explained Web 2.0 well, but I’ll have to see if I can remember where it was. Anyway, the idea is basically that it’s anything that allows building a community–a blog, a website like DIGG.com where you rank and share news sites, online tools like Writely where you can collaborate on word processing documents…that sort of thing.
I think your idea about blogs for the other groups is a great idea!

This is Joel.
I am excited about the possibilities as well. Of all the committees I am on, this one is the most exciting. I hope we can get more parents involved as well as more students. And I spoke with a staff member who was on another committee who said she would like input from our group on their topic once we all get the ball rolling!

I finally made it! Now I have a blog also, although unintentional!
I am really excited about this committee because I get to find out about all those things I’m missing! And I know that the first-graders coming up to high school will need a different education than the former first-graders we are currently teaching.
I want to learn how technology can help us because teachers (some of us) are way behind! It is exciting to anticipate the ways we can help teachers who are coming after us.

Glad to see we are all getting on here. I am obviously still figuring out the software of getting the site set up also, but will make improvements as soon as I figure it out!
On the right hand side, I have added a few links to books, gadgets, and webblogs that we talked about or that I was aware of, mainly just to show how we could gather information on this site.
Looking forward to our meeting next week! –Carolyn

I am in the process of requesting a parent who works TASB if they might be interested in being on our subcommittee. He is very involved with technology at TASB.
On another note, I got an interesting link sent to me today on the use of technology by teachers. “Should schools allow teachers to use outside technology tools?” Link : http://news.techlearning.com/cgi-bin4/DM/y/hzcR0Iu8fg0E2V0Em3k0E5
It brings up the use of technology by teachers that is not necessarily supplied by the school. An issue that will definitely come up with our vision.
